AI in Music Production

Image
With the rise in AI and programmers continuing to find more ways to generate content & discover more uses for it, it was only a matter of time before they started to establish it in editing programs. My first impression with it was Capcut's feature to AI generate music in the audio tab. I can't remember if it was a free option or not because they usually throw in a premium feature's first time usage as a freebie, but my first impression of it? It's about as abysmal as you'd expect.  If I had to describe its sound, imagine every popular dance pop artist's peak from the 2010s and paired with the most monotonous lyrics about being "kind" and "brave". I genuinely had to close out the app for that. I severely doubt AI in music is gonna get better in a short amount of time compared to other tasks simply because it requires sophisticated mixing and lyrics that can actually touch someone's soul. Even if you're someone who...

Concert Etiquette

Image
Concerts 80% of the time tend to be really fun! (and sweaty). When I have the time to, I absolutely love going to support the multitude of bands that I listen to and just go all out at the general admission standing area. Personally the best part about enjoying lesser popular bands is that the tickets are almost always cheaper, and sometimes you even hang with them for a bit at the shop booth. However, there can be some "party poopers" in the crowd that can really just kill the mood sometimes, whether from their excessive smoking or really bad hygiene. I'd like to dedicate this week's blog to them and how you can do your best NOT being that person. Smoking First things first, let's discuss the smoking problem. Look, I get it, some individuals enjoy smoking or vaping during a show. If the concert is outside too then I probably wouldn't mind it as much. However, here's the thing: not everybody enjoys secondhand smoke, especially in a packed room. If yo...

Music Earworms: Tunes You Can't Escape From

Image
(Before you ask, yes, today's blog is inspired by that one Spongebob episode) One of my favorite bands Thornhill released a new banger called Silver Swarm, and needless to say, it's been on repeat on my Spotify for DAYS. I usually try not to get this hooked onto a song this bad because I'll end up getting sick of it in the near future. However, it's been such an enticing sound for me that I think I have a serious case of a music earworm.  As I find myself nodding to the same tune over and over, I start to wonder why certain songs have this incredible ability to burrow into our minds and refuse to leave. It's a universal experience—almost everyone has had a song stuck in their head at some point. But what makes this happen? Is it the catchy melody, the memorable lyrics, or something deeper? From what I've gathered at a psychological standpoint, earworms are linked to mind wandering and spontaneous thought processes. They engage our working memory, particularly wi...

Working With An Instrument

Image
I have to give props to those who have dedicated most of their lives to learning an instrument, because I sure have given up on my guitar after about a month of learning just the chords a maybe one or two songs.  Even though I have even less time on my hands with college and planning out my career as my graduation date gets near, it was honestly still pretty fun plucking away at my guitar. Going through the catalogue of songs I wanted to learn was mesmerizing and playing the basic melody of a new one was a good challenge, even when I was terrible at it. Maybe when life balances out and I get another crumb of free time, I'll pick up my dusty electric guitar again.  For those who are considering picking up an instrument, I'd say it's definitely worth the try if you have the time to commit. Not only is it a great way to express yourself creatively, One of the most rewarding aspects of playing an instrument is the sense of accomplishment you feel when you finally master a ne...
